I like your attitude, Vlad...maybe gratitude is what it's all about. I mean, I seriously have nothing to complain about in my life at the moment! I have a nice home with all the basic amenities, and perhaps the most intellectual freedom I've ever had. There's no reason for me to get emotional about the "dying world." Neither I nor anyone I know is going to be around long enough to suffer its Ultimate Fate.
I still think there's something to be said about compassion, though, at least for most people. (For one thing, it makes us easier to talk to when we have dinner guests.) If we're really going to focus on the world's problems, though, we should start small, like on actual living people. You know, share the bread, "a friend in need", etc. Basic human kindness. If that means donating your canned peas to Ethiopia, then go ahead, but keep it in mind that projecting too far away from yourself in space or time, or trying to heal everyone's hurts at once, is usually asking for disappointment.
