Shame On Audi!

People writing reviews of powerful cars need to moderate their tone, while manufacturers should hang their heads in shame.

We know that the ice cap at the North Pole is now at its smallest ever measured size. Accordingly, what does Edwin Naidoo think when writing his review of the immoderate German insect smasher, an Audi as far as I recall (Sunday Independent, Sept 23), which, with a motor of over 4 litres and far too much power was clearly designed for macho castratos with low self esteem and no brains at all. Does he fail to see any irony in giving this damn fool plaything media space?

I mean how thick does one have to be to buy a car that is not only killing the planet but is so obscenely expensive that most people it passes won’t earn that much money in their lifetimes? Does it make some witless eunuch with a big expense account happy to flaunt their wealth in a country where they will not impress but instead will do little more than increase levels of already simmering resentment?

Its blindingly obvious that some members of the government aspire to drive the biggest cars in the longest motorcades recharge their egos and to forget their roots, but does bra Edwin really think the rest of us have forgotten where we live?

Please, give us a break from these displays of excessive consumption and perhaps instead bollock the public transport authorities for not providing us with any meaningful alternative to the motor car, let alone one so idiotically tasteless and extravagant. Its kraut manufacturers, Audi I think it was, should hang their heads in shame as well. Who says the Germans are no longer arrogant? Sies!
