Eskom - Proposed Nuclear Power Station Pearly Beach Bantamsklip
by Dr J.H.R. van der Velden.
(Hermanus, Western Cape)
Eishkom wants to build nuclear power stations at Bantamsklip near PBarly beach, right at the southern tip of Africa in the ecological most sensitive hotspot, where the 2 main ocean currrents meet as well as in the Cape Fynbos Biome, one of our only 3 NATURAL world heritage sites. (The others are for other reasons)
Most of the electrical current will go North and little used locally.
To fight this, I need hard facts: how much electricity - giga- or megawatt will the smelters use or is using or it will be using?
The historic reason for building it here is because the land was disapprropriated in P.W. Botha's time of the ''Swart Gevaar'' to the North and he wanted his vulnerable stuff such as nuclear and secret missile factory and missile test range as far from the Swart Gevaar in the north as possible.
Futher south as this, he could not go. so Eskom just went ahead with the site without realizing why, in this uneconomical spot.
With the current - pardon the pun - power struggle at eskom, i need the info a.s.a.p.
