Dec 6, 2007, Climate Change Bali Conference
A preview of the United Nations Framework on Climate Change Bali Conference, December 2007 and its real- world outcomes.
By Glenn Ashton
This is how this talking head thinks we should deal with the climate change problem.
Well, a whole bunch of bigwigs have headed off to Bali to talk about the climate crisis. Again.
Now that the selling of carbon indulgences is a globally accepted way of making corporates and even some governments feel better about themselves, I am sure that this august gathering will come to some far more complex and impossible to comprehend, if not irrelevant, means to pull us out of the mess we find ourselves in.
But then let's not get too cynical. There are some bright folk there but getting consensus is always nigh impossible. Especially where America is concerned.. continued

Nov 21, 2007, Buy Nothing Day!
Buy Nothing Day Given that consumerism is killing the world, here is one way to counteract it. This does not mean that you have to go madly shopping to prepare for it or to counteract it the following day. Try to make every day a buy nothing day and always remember that our wants are unlimited but our needs are limited - in old style economics speak. So only get what you need, not what you want! Buy Nothing Day: Friday, November 23rd (from midnight, 11/22, until midnight 11/23) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buy_Nothing_Day
Buy Nothing Day is an informal day of protest against consumerism observed by social activists. In 2007, Buy Nothing Day falls on November 23rd in North America and November 24th internationally.. It was founded by Vancouver artist Ted Dave and subsequently promoted by the Canadian Adbusters magazine. The first Buy Nothing Day was organized in Vancouver in September of 1992 "as a day for society to examine the issue of over-consumption". In 1997, it was moved to the Friday after American Thanksgiving, which is one of the top 10 busiest shopping days in the United States. Outside of North America, Buy Nothing Day is celebrated on the following Saturday. Despite controversies, Adbusters managed to advertise Buy Nothing Day on CNN, but many other major television networks declined to air their ads. Soon, campaigns started appearing in United States, the United Kingdom, Israel, Germany, New Zealand, Japan, the Netherlands, and Norway. Participation now includes more than 65 nations. While critics of the day charge that Buy Nothing Day simply causes participants to buy the next day, Adbusters states that it "isn't just about changing your habits for one day" but "about starting a lasting lifestyle commitment to consuming less and producing less waste".
